1. Billing methods
When you use Alibaba Cloud DNS (Public DNS - Authoritative DNS), you are charged for the following two billable items:
Alibaba Cloud DNS (monthly or yearly subscription): This service is billed on a monthly or yearly subscription basis. After you purchase this service, you can use the global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service provided by paid authoritative DNS servers. For more information about the differences between editions of Alibaba Cloud DNS, see Editions.
Authoritative DNS Advanced Service: Authoritative DNS Advanced Service is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. The advanced service mainly supports the DNS traffic analysis feature. More features will be available in the future. Fees are generated only if you use the feature supported by the service after you activate the service.
2. Billing rules
(1) Alibaba Cloud DNS (monthly or yearly subscription)
If you want to use the public authoritative DNS resolution service of the official edition provided by Alibaba Cloud DNS, you must purchase a hosted public zone instance first.

Instance fee = Edition fee + Unit price of DNS protection × Number of zones + Unit price of zones × (Number of zones - 1)
For example, you purchase a hosted public zone instance of Enterprise Ultimate Edition within Account A for a year. Fifteen zones are bound to the instance and DNS Attack Defense Basic is enabled for the instance. Fee for the hosted public zone = USD 1469. The fee is calculated by using the following formula: USD 81 + USD 86 × 15 + USD 7 × (15 - 1).
Expiration
If your subscription expires, the features that are supported by the paid edition become unavailable, but you can continue to use the features provided by the free edition.
You are notified by email or Short Message Service (SMS) message seven days before your subscription is due to expire.
After the expiration, your DNS configurations are retained for another seven days. If you renew the subscription within seven days, your DNS configurations are not affected. Otherwise, the DNS configurations provided in the paid edition are deleted, and you can only use the DNS configurations provided in the free edition.
(2) Authoritative DNS Advanced Service
If you want to use the advanced public authoritative DNS resolution service provided by Alibaba Cloud DNS, you need to activate Authoritative DNS Advanced Service.

For example, 1 million authoritative DNS resolution logs are analyzed in a day within Account A. The DNS traffic analysis fee is USD 3. The fee is calculated by using the following formula: 1 million × USD 0.03/10,000.
If you have a high volume of requests for domain name resolution, it is recommended that you purchase Authoritative DNS Advanced Service (Traffic Plan). The specific billing rules are as follows:

Overdue payments
If your account has overdue payments, Authoritative DNS Advanced Service becomes unavailable. The service resumes after you complete the overdue payments.
